Elizabeth "PeeWee" Brooks (Fountain)

Diane,

Wow, I felt that hug!! I just want to say "Thank You Jesus!" for bringing Chuck home and with his family! I know you and Dick will sleep better now. I can't imagine what it would be like to have a child in Iraq at this time. I know you are proud of him.

Suggestion: Perhaps you and other cheerleaders in our class could give a big cheer for the INDIANS on Friday night! I accept that the new name is Patriots but it will never, never take the place of "Oglethorpe Indians" in my heart.

See you on Friday night. I get goosebumps thinking about it and after reading all the messages from other classmates, I'm sure they have some bumping too.
Love, PeeWee

Diane Harris (Moore)

Pee Wee, I will let Janie go out there and lead that cheer all by her cute little self. I never could get very high off the ground, and now a'days it would take a hydraulic lift to do it! And, if I don't quit stopping by and checking this darned site every single time I walk by, I will never get packed to leave tomorrow! Somebody unplug me! And yes, all thanks to God for the many ways he has answered our prayers this year. We are grateful and humbled.

HI Everyone,
Thanks Diane and Elizebeth for thinking about cheerleading, but that was in 1968 and this in now 2008. I will enjoy watching the cheerleader and remember the good old time. I look forward to seeing everyone. Hey it feel like Christmas!!!
Love Janie

Well, I didn't mean to do this again, but I HAD to check once more before leaving, and I'm so glad I did. Now I get to drive to GA tomorrow knowing that "Miss Veal and Mr. Pryor" are coming! That's how I remember them, though I know they have been married many years. I hope they won't mind me telling this memory, but I'll never forget seeing them share a sweet slow dance together when all of us were in 8th grade. It was after a ballgame at a dance they were chaperoning. The song was "I Can't Stop Loving You" by Ray Charles. My romantic little 8th grade heart just swooned, because I knew love was blossoming. Just one more memory, and I have them to thank.

Until I see you all this weekend, may God keep you and those you love in His care.

Love,
Diane

Joan Moncrief

Hello to all, it is 1:25 a.m. I know I should be in bed, but I am like cousin Diane....I can't stop reading these messages. Diane and Dick, I am so glad that your son is home safely. I know you can't wait to see him.
Now, you all be careful. I am praying for all of us, whether we have to travel 10 minutes or 10 hours. I think we are all looking so forward to this...like Janie said, I don't believe kids are as excited at Christmas these days as we "ole folks" are about this reunion. I would help you cheerleaders onto the field, but I'm not sure how far any of us would get. I could probably roll down the hill better than walk down the steps. This message is so rambling that you probably stopped reading it several lines ago.

Dick, I think we suggested and you agreed to bring this meeting to some kind of order. Are you planning to ask the blessing or do you want us to ask Kathy Carter's husband (who is a minister)? I know you all have such a long drive, you will have plenty of time to think about all the little things that we may have overlooked. You know, I'm not worried about anything...we'll have the food, friends, fellowship, and fun...waht else do we need?

Goodnight guys and gals,
Ray

The previous message nor this one is from Joan Moncrief. I used my e-mail address to get her info into the system. I'll have to call on Gary to get me out of this one.

See you,

Ray

Connie Morgan (White)

Glad to hear from Mr. and Mrs. Pryor and Ms. Moncrief!!!

I AM SO EXCITED about this week-end.

I got my t-shirt today. They look wonderful! Thanks Inez for taking care of that and Ray for helping distribute them. Jesse Allen, I understand you talked to someone @ OCHS about us possibly having a section to sit together @ the ballgame,-thanks.
I picked up the "welcome banner" from the p.o. (Don Chandler made it and then mailed it since he can't be here Friday night) I wasn't going to open it cause I was afraid I couldn't get it rolled back up --- but I couldn't stand it. WOW - it looks great. Thanks Don.
Thank you Tessie for getting some drinks for people to have during the afternoon Saturday.

Those of you that have come to a planning meeting (and I THANK EACH ONE OF YOU for helping pull this together), know that I live just up the road from the clubhouse.
On Saturday the house will be open for anyone that wants to come up and rest or get away for a few minutes, (or check-in on the dawgs).

I don't want all this to end. Let's PLEASE stay in touch. It is obvious to those of us who have recently been "reacquainted" that we have a bond and truly care about each other.

I'm praying for traveling mercies for all of you.
with love,
connie

Ray Wheless

Thank you, Connie, for your prayers and thoughts. Again, thank you so much for opening your home to us all those hours that we pretended to be planning this great event! I can hardly wait.

NEWS FLASH!! PASS THE WORD ALONG!!!

Meet around the ticket booth of the stadium at 6:45 to 7:00 p.m. (turn on the road between the school and gym which leads to the stadium OR turn in at the drive to the gym parking lot and follow the crowd). HOME side is the side closer to Highway 78.

For those who ordered t-shirts, they will be at the same place (around the entrance to the stadium). Be prepared to just slip it over whatever you have on or use the stadium restrooms to change.

I have the keys to the clubhouse. A group will be meeting there on Friday night from 5:30-7:30 p.m., and then we have it available to us.

In case it is raining pretty much, I will probably go on over to the clubhouse and hang out. Anyone who wants to do the same is welcome. Let's pray that we have good weather for the week-end.

I'm sure I am forgetting something, so please forgive me.

Love to all,

Ray

Ray Wheless

This is from Ray Wheless:

Amen, Gary. Hope everyone is okay this Sunday afternoon. I just finished eating some more of those delcious ribs!

What can I say? This was absolutely a WONDERFUL WEEKEND.
Of all the things I have ever been a part in helping to plan and then actually being a part of, this has had to be the VERY BEST. I think everyone who attended deserves a pat on the back for being involved in this 40th Year Class Reunion and for making it a grand success.

I honestly believe that all had a good time. (I hope Kenneth (Pryor) gets out of the dog house soon for keeping Betty Jo out so late. One time last night, she told me that he had told her 2 hours earlier they would be leaving. I think they stayed another hour or more after that. She admitted that she thought he was having as good a time as anybody. She also told me that this one of the first times she had really been out since her knee surgery; we'll have to get together with them after this one is healed and before she has surgery on the other one.) Thank you for attending, Mr. and Mrs. Pryor.

Mr. Crenshaw told me that Mrs. Crenshaw had been looking forward to attending since we invited them. She said that of all the classes she had been a part of, she believed ours was No. 1. I think we should be honored to have that said about us. Thank you, Mrs. Crenshaw.

Mrs. Crenshaw left Oglethorpe County and went to Oconee County to teach for a short while before she returned to Oglethorpe County and stayed until she retired.

Mrs. Joan Moncrief, with her white/gray hair just as beautiful as the red hair we remembered as 7th graders, was very complimentary also. She reminded me of so many incidents with our class that I had forgotten. She taught us around 1963 (45 years ago). She has a marvelous memory!! Some of you may not know this but she left Oglethorpe County, went to Taliefarro County, and then returned to Oglethorpe County and taught another year before she went back to Taliaferro County. I am so glad that we crossed paths with her during her tenure. Thank you for attending, Mrs. Moncrief.

Mrs. Armour had a full day on Saturday. She had been rafting before arriving at the reunion. We are glad that she made it because so many of us wanted to see her, too. I heard so many say "she still looks the same". I asked her husband, Norman, what was he doing to help her maintain that look; of course, he said he was taking good care of her. Thanks for attending, Sonya and Norman Armour. Even though she introduced me to a "C" in conduct, I still love her! (I explained to her that we were working on the yearbook and had to talk to one another. She stood her ground as she looked up to me and said the talking does not have to be so much and so loud). We appreciate your attendance at the reunion.

I am so glad that these teachers and others were a part of our lives as we learned while respecting them as authority as well as friends.

Remember, it hasn't ended, instead we are continuing it. I've heard let's get together next month, before Christmas, 2 years from now (when most of us will be 60), a cruise (but what are we going to do with Linda?) Dick, brush up on your Psychology, I will try to counsel with her, Judy you get the drugs that we need to get her on the ship, and then we'll all have a wonderful time!! We may be able to get Linda a job on the ship doing their cleaning and she may decide she had rather cruise than to do hair. A cruise might give Carl a rest. Anything that needed to be done, Linda would say "Carl will take care of that". I was afraid he was going to leave, if she kept giving him jobs to do. He is that way all of the time--always willing to help. Even though he was not a classmate, he did so much to help us. Thank you, Carl.

As Mrs. Sandra Cook wrote to me one time, "thanks is a teeny word, but let's make it a great big word" as I say "thanks" to all for a wonderful, wonderful reunion!!

I have to get ready for church, now, so until later,

In love and appreciation to all,

Ray Wheless

Hi Guys & Gals,
I can't imagine how it could have been any better. And, yes, I would like to get together as soon as we can get it scheduled. I'm home & gotta go to work tomorrow, YUK!!!
Back to my world with lots of sweet memories from Friday & Saturday. That will make it all O.K.
Love & Hugs to all,
Judy

Tereesa Stevens (Minish)

The reuion weekend was a total success in my book. Words cannot begin to express how much fun I had and all the good memories that were relived. There were so many people that made this weekend possible and I am afraid that I will leave someone out, so I am jst going to tell EVERYONE thanks for a wonderful weekend. I want to especially thank all the spouses who came and helped with the decorating, picture taking and just putting up with all of us. I know Carl thought he had two boss' on Saturday, because I was constantly asking (telling) him to do something, and he was always willing to do everything.

It was so good seeing everyone. We had a great class and we are still a great group of people. Everyone has so many different types of talent. I want to be Dale's agent, I still think he could make more money and have more fun "being Elvis" instead of his regular job.

Kathy and Rayburn are the most "perfect" couple. They are living proof of God's love and I am so glad that they shared some of the talent that God has given them---it was like angels singing.

Ross, you did a fantastic job in finding a good cook. I will confess that I was worried at the beginning because we could never get a concrete answer on what we where having and what all he was providing. Roger and Brenda Smith did a wonderful job and the food was delicious. There was no excuse for anyone leaving hungry.

And David, is always full of surprises. I never dreamed that he could sing like that. And Pee Wee was wonderful as usual.

It was great seeing all the teachers and to hear them telling about things that they remembered about our classes and finding out the Mr. and Mrs. Pryor came from South Carolina to see us graduate (I guess I was so nervous that night that I don't remember seeing them). Ms. Montcrief was so pretty with her beautiful white hair. Ms. Crenshaw was just a sweet and soft spoken as she was 40 years ago. I don't think she knew how to raise her voice.

I agree that we need to continue to stay in touch. We need to start now trying to get another reunion organized. The cruise sounds wonderful and we need to go ahead and start making plans (like deciding on a time frame) so some of us can start saving our money so we will not be left behind and really find a solution for Linda. Of course, I don't know if we can find a criuise line that could tolerate all of us for four or five days.

In talking to other people who have had reunions this summer, I think that ours had the best turnout. We only had a very few that did not attend.

I hope that everyone had/has a safe trip back home and will be on the lookout for our next gathering.

Again, thanks to everyone for making this a very wonderful weekend.

Tereesa

I can not begin to tell you how very much Rabun and I enjoyed this ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS weekend. We laughed, cried, and will have such wondeful memories to treasure.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, everyone, who worked so hard on planning, organizing, and for your time and labor donated into making this the GREATEST.

Thanks to those of you for allowing me to talk to you and share what God has done for Rabun and me all of these years we have been His servants, the way He has met our needs through the years, and especially since he was diagnosed with leukemia in July. Thank you for prayers for him and me. Thank you for allowing us to share in song. There's so very much more I could tell you about what God has done in our lives all these years and I thank Him and praise Him for all He does for us. To God be the glory.

I am thankful to God for each of you and that we could attend school together all those years and for memories and friendships made.

(You "sexy seven" please send me your mailing address and phone number, you know who you are.)

You know as we grow older we realize that possessions don't matter. This world where we are living is not our home, it's just a place for us to serve others and honor our Creator. If we have accepted Jesus Christ in our hearts He has us a home prepared where we will spend eternity praising and adoring Him for all He has done, for who He is, for His great love for us. I hope to see all of you there one day when this life is over. I love you all.

I ask that you pray for us as Rabun contines his treatments. I would like to share in more detail sometime later about what God has done and is doing for us,if you don't mind my doing so on this forum.

Diane Harris (Moore)

Here it is Monday morning and I feel like I am waking from a dream. Friday and Saturday were two of the happiest days I've had in a long, long time. You know how sometimes there is a big, blockbuster movie that comes out and everybody is talking about how great it is, but then when you finally see it you are disappointed because the real thing didn't live up to your expectations? Well, this was not the case with our reunion!! The weekend exceeded what my happy daydreams had hoped for.

I want to write more when we get home to Ohio, but I don't have time now. We are still in GA, hoping to visit with family. However, we learned last night that Ike sent some near hurricane force winds into our part of Ohio yesterday. We have no power at our house there, and all the schools and businesses are closed. With power crews down in the Houston area helping out, they say it could be 4-5 days before the Dayton area gets up and running with power. We may need to leave a little earlier than we meant to get back and check on things. We have a young woman who is house/dog sitting, and she is at a real disadvantage. Anyway, they say the winds were part of Ike, but I'm wondering if they were coming from our little clubhouse in Crawford!

As I close (until I get back to Ohio), I again want to thank everyone for everything. My heart was absolutely mush all weekend! It was almost magical, and I pray with all my heart that everyone left feeling as uplifted and happy as Dick and I did. I agree with everything that all the previous posts have so eloquently said.

I'm lifting a cup of coffee right now to the extraordinary class of 1968! May our memories of this weekend inspire us to stay in touch forever, and to be there for each other through life's ups and downs.

Until later, with greatest affection,
Diane

Hi everyone,

Has Elvis left the building? Encore please. I loved every minute of the reunion. I am so blessed to be a part of the Class of 68 and to see the men and women you have become is truly inspiring. You are awesome!
Thanks to everyone who made this happen. Take care and stay safe until we meet again.

Love,
Gail

Hello again Class of ’68! I cannot find the words to express what a wonderful blessing this 40th Year Reunion has been. I see that many of you have said it better than I could. I want to thank all of you for making Liz feel very welcome too! She sends her love and thanks as well. Through the years Liz and I have been blessed to travel a lot in this great land, and a few foreign countries as well. The world is full of wonderful people, but I can say right from the heart that there is not a better group of people anywhere on God’s green earth than the ones I graduated with at OCHS in the Class of ’68! I really mean it! You are all warm, loving, caring people… and I don’t want to ever stop hugging you!

Liz and I are off to Texas early tomorrow morning for a 10-day trip to Texas to visit family. Not the best of timing to visit that part of the country right now but this trip has been planned a while. I’ll be away from the computer too. Please say a prayer for the people of Texas and all the folks whose lives have been turned upside down by Hurricane Ike. And those in the Midwest too…all the way up through Liz’s hometown of Louisville, Kentucky and Dick and Diane’s home of Dayton, Ohio too.

I took tons of pictures Saturday and will be happy to share them with anyone interested. I plan to make them available on CD when I return. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but even pictures cannot adequately capture that little bit of heaven we all experienced in that tiny Crawford Clubhouse on Saturday. This all just has to be continued somehow, someway. I look forward to seeing you all again soon.

Love & Prayers & Blessings & Hugs to all of you!!!
Don

DON, AND DICK ALSO, I'LL BE GLAD TO PAY YOU FOR A COPY OF YOUR PICTURES. I KNOW THE ONE'S I GOT WOULD NOT COMPARE TO WHAT YOU GUYS GOT. AND I WANT TO BE ABLE TO REMEMBER THIS WEEKEND. IT WAS GREAT! AND AGAIN BETH AND I BOTH HAD A GREAT TIME. THANKS TO ALL.

Inez Nation (Rogers)

Good morning everyone,
I cannot express how much I enjoyed seeing everyone Sat. We are blessed to have such a great group of classmates. My daughter has a reunion comming up soon, I have spoken to a couple of her classmates including her and they have no desire to go to that reunion. It is a different world now. I am so blessed to be a part of our class. We all love and accept each other the way we are and we enjoy being together. Proof of that was the attendance we had. Thanks to all of you that made the long trip to be with us. I hope everyone had a safe trip back home. It has been hard for me to get back into the mode of working, we had so much fun the last few days.
Kathy and Rabun, I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed your song. I had chills all over me while you were singing. Tessie had it right you sound like angels. We will be praying for Rabun at our church. You both have so much love for God and it shows through in your witness and love to others.
Dale, you were great. I was just disappointed that you did not sing longer.
Thanks to everyone that help make this the best reunion ever. Liz (pee wee) thank you for all the work you and your family put into this.
THANK YOU EVERYONE! What a great time and big turn out.
I am ready to start planning for our next get together. Christmas I heard.
Don I would love a CD. I know several of us took pictures. It would be nice to get a copy of everyone's. I can put mine on a CD from my computer and we can share if anyone wants to do that.
Love to all,
Inez

Love to all,

I trust everyone has come down from the weekend high. I updated the slide show today with several previously missing classmates. I hope to have everyone included in the near future. I would suggest that one person undertake the task of consolidating all available photos. That should reduce the number of CD's being exchanged and give everyone a great keepsake. I think a DVD would also be nice for those who don't use a computer. If no one else wants the job, I would be happy to take on this task. I think I have everything I need - what I don't, it will be a good excuse to invest in some new software/hardware. If someone else wishes to undertake this, I will be happy to provide all of the images I have. Please speak up if you have a particular expertise in this area!!! I want to get/give the best collection we can put together.
May God Bless and Keep You til We Meet Again!

Did everyone notice that today is Mr. Pryor's birthday!
Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you,

I guess I had better leave the singing to PeeWee, Dale and David.
Happy Birthday, Mr. Pryor and God's Blessing on You!!

Teresa Burt (Colwell)

Hi Gang,

It has taken me several days to recover from and process what a truly wonderful time I had on Saturday. I told Jim "If I die tomorrow, you will know I died a happy woman." I don't know when I have laughed so much. I must make one observation though: It was much easier to pick out and identify the women than the men. I suppose that's because I didn't remember so much hair ON their faces or so little hair OFF their heads. Anyway, you all looked beautiful to me. I am so grateful for those of you who made Saturday such an unforgettable day.

A special thanks to Pee Wee and Connie who must have kept every bit of memorabelia from our senior year, and to Gary for such an awesome web site. I believe this site was in large part the reason for such an unbelievable turn out. And thanks to Ray for the tour of the school. I'm glad Oglethorpe's school system continues to grow. Before you experts forget how to pull such an extravaganza together, maybe you should start planning our next event. Whatever it is, please count me in.

Please know that I will pray daily for God's blessings and protection on my old/new friends. Stay in touch

Teresa Burt Colwell
