Ray Wheless
This is from Ray Wheless:
Amen, Gary. Hope everyone is okay this Sunday afternoon. I just finished eating some more of those delcious ribs!
What can I say? This was absolutely a WONDERFUL WEEKEND. Of all the things I have ever been a part in helping to plan and then actually being a part of, this has had to be the VERY BEST. I think everyone who attended deserves a pat on the back for being involved in this 40th Year Class Reunion and for making it a grand success.
I honestly believe that all had a good time. (I hope Kenneth (Pryor) gets out of the dog house soon for keeping Betty Jo out so late. One time last night, she told me that he had told her 2 hours earlier they would be leaving. I think they stayed another hour or more after that. She admitted that she thought he was having as good a time as anybody. She also told me that this one of the first times she had really been out since her knee surgery; we'll have to get together with them after this one is healed and before she has surgery on the other one.) Thank you for attending, Mr. and Mrs. Pryor.
Mr. Crenshaw told me that Mrs. Crenshaw had been looking forward to attending since we invited them. She said that of all the classes she had been a part of, she believed ours was No. 1. I think we should be honored to have that said about us. Thank you, Mrs. Crenshaw.
Mrs. Crenshaw left Oglethorpe County and went to Oconee County to teach for a short while before she returned to Oglethorpe County and stayed until she retired.
Mrs. Joan Moncrief, with her white/gray hair just as beautiful as the red hair we remembered as 7th graders, was very complimentary also. She reminded me of so many incidents with our class that I had forgotten. She taught us around 1963 (45 years ago). She has a marvelous memory!! Some of you may not know this but she left Oglethorpe County, went to Taliefarro County, and then returned to Oglethorpe County and taught another year before she went back to Taliaferro County. I am so glad that we crossed paths with her during her tenure. Thank you for attending, Mrs. Moncrief.
Mrs. Armour had a full day on Saturday. She had been rafting before arriving at the reunion. We are glad that she made it because so many of us wanted to see her, too. I heard so many say "she still looks the same". I asked her husband, Norman, what was he doing to help her maintain that look; of course, he said he was taking good care of her. Thanks for attending, Sonya and Norman Armour. Even though she introduced me to a "C" in conduct, I still love her! (I explained to her that we were working on the yearbook and had to talk to one another. She stood her ground as she looked up to me and said the talking does not have to be so much and so loud). We appreciate your attendance at the reunion.
I am so glad that these teachers and others were a part of our lives as we learned while respecting them as authority as well as friends.
Remember, it hasn't ended, instead we are continuing it. I've heard let's get together next month, before Christmas, 2 years from now (when most of us will be 60), a cruise (but what are we going to do with Linda?) Dick, brush up on your Psychology, I will try to counsel with her, Judy you get the drugs that we need to get her on the ship, and then we'll all have a wonderful time!! We may be able to get Linda a job on the ship doing their cleaning and she may decide she had rather cruise than to do hair. A cruise might give Carl a rest. Anything that needed to be done, Linda would say "Carl will take care of that". I was afraid he was going to leave, if she kept giving him jobs to do. He is that way all of the time--always willing to help. Even though he was not a classmate, he did so much to help us. Thank you, Carl.
As Mrs. Sandra Cook wrote to me one time, "thanks is a teeny word, but let's make it a great big word" as I say "thanks" to all for a wonderful, wonderful reunion!!
I have to get ready for church, now, so until later,
In love and appreciation to all,
Ray Wheless
