Marcee Metzger 2020

MARCEE METZGER - 2020 DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI AWARD

We congratulate our classmate Marcee Metzger as she is recognized among the Distinguished Alumni of Lincoln Southeast High School.

Since 1976, Marcee has worked in a variety of roles towards ending violence against women. She started as a volunteer answering phones at a 24-hour personal crisis line while studying her major in Women’s Studies at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. After graduation, Marcee moved to California and worked at a shelter for battered women.

She returned to Lincoln and became the director of the Women’s Resource Center on campus, and later the head of the Rape Spouse Abuse Crisis Center — with five staff members and no money — and turned it into Voices of Hope.

Marcee also worked as a shelter worker, Spouse Abuse Services program director, University of Nebraska Women’s Resource Center director and president of the Nebraska Domestic Violence Sexual Assault Coalition. She is currently Executive Director of Voices of Hope, a not for profit organization in Lincoln and is a co-author of “Family Violence From a Global Perspective”.

Note: An awards dinner was scheduled by Southeast High School to present the year's awards. It was set for March 19, 2020 but was canceled because of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). It was decided by Southeast administrators to reschedule the public presentation for March 2021 in conjunction with the selected honorees of that year. We were not informed of the event, if it took place.
