I never really knew Bruce at LSE but, became aquainted with him through my husband Greg. Sometime in the 1980's we were visiting in Lincoln and Greg had became interested in archery hunting. He went to a store named, Lincoln Archery, located in the College View shopping area. He came home and told me that the owner went to LSE and seemed to know who I was. I looked in the Shield and the face was familiar. We spent several times back in his store purchasing and talking with Bruce. He was a fine person and a faithful follower of his Lord. We lost track of him sometime in the 90's. I really treasure the time we did spend with him, such a gentle soul.

I never saw Bruce Batterman after HS graduation, but I'll always remember his crop of carrot-orange hair and the way his blue eyes danced when he grinned. He was reserved and softspoken much of the time, and blushed often during conversation. I remember him as an upstanding individual of quiet strength, dedication and devotion. Although our yearbook doesn't indicate it, I recall Bruce being a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He played baseball for Southeast, and earned a letter. His sister, Cyndi, (LSE '71) was a friend of mine during high school, and it was humorous to observe their playful bantering when they would encounter one another in the halls of LSE. Rest In Eternal Peace, Bruce.
Leslie Brown (Lewis)
I always picture Bruce smiling. I hope he still is.
