In Memory

Janet Kunkel (Lansdale)

From Patricia "Trish" Callaghan Hernandez

I’m beyond broken hearted to announce the passing of my dear friend Janet Kunkel Koch after a long battle with lung cancer and subsequently pneumonia. She will be greatly missed by all, the world is less wonderful without her.

Aww, Sad Newscrying I  hadn't seen Jan in many years, but when I think of her, I remember how I loved her upbeat, on-the-go, cheerful self, nearly always smiling and/or laughing. I recall when she came to Irving how pleasantly surprised many of us were to learn "Stern-Strict-and-Serious" Mrs. Kunkel's daughter was far from stern, strict and serious. I still smile as I recall her  in the halls of Irving, quoting the Cowardly Lion from the Wizard of Oz. She sounded just like Burt Lahr, in that high-pitched, sing-songy, nasal tone: "I'll fight ya, I'll fight ya! I'll fight ya with my hands tied behind my back! I'll hit ya with my nose and knock ya over! I'll fight ya, I'll fight ya!"  As Trish said, she was a bright spot in this world. Godspeed, old friend. Shine on...

I was sorry to hear about the passing of Janet Kunkel Lansdale.  I had her mother, Mrs. Kunkel as a teacher and met Janet at Irving Jr. High and remember how fun she was to be with.   Always a smile on her face and can't remember now all we did but most importantly she was a friend and was a fun person to be with.  RIP my friend.
