I became acquainted with Kimball Simon in the first grade at Merle Beattie, and we attended Irving Junior High and LSE simultaneously until graduation. Kimball was an extremely intelligent individual, his genius extending well beyond that of his classmates and peers. Kimball could analyze, hypothesize, reflect and comment with confident and precise knowledge on any given subject, in any academic environment. As a child, I believed Kimball would one day be an Astrophysicist, a Biochemist, an Archaeogeologist, or a Doctoral Professor of Academia at some renowned and prestigious university. Sadly, Kimball's vast intellect created an insurmountable rift in his social life. I believe he was probably a very lonely person for most of his short time among us. I don't remember the year, but it seems it was within four or five years of graduating LSE, that I learned Kimball had unexpectedly passed away at home. Rest in peace, Kimball.
