Now and Then - #1

Can you identify this popular Wilson Borough destination?  Pretty much every town in America still has at least one of these, but those of us who remember it will all agree it was unique.  Especially in demand following evening basketball games or wrestling matches, it's possible this once treasured stopover didn't even last in its familiar form and function until our graduation in 1971, but this is how it looks today:

It's Topp's Pizza!

Congratulations to Marti Ott Sebring, who was the first to identify this paragon of Wilson Boro's culinary landmarks. Marti also gets extra credit for pointing out that the price for a slice of this unique combination of dough, sauce and cheese was just a thin dime back in the day - a price confirmed by this ad from a 1963 football program:

Topp's unique recipe would not likely have won it "Best in Pennsylvania" honors (if such surveys even existed back in the '60s) and may be lost forever, but at 10-cents per square you couldn't beat the bargain and it sure hit the spot after basketball games, wrestling matches and school dances.  And who can forget the minimalist ambiance of its decor and the pure functionality of its floor space for the gathering of hungry adolescent multitudes.

Rounding out the first five responders were Mickey Snyder, Carol Tylus LaFleur, Al Perruso and Terry Bieber Balcavage.

Does anyone know when Topp's finally closed or any other historical details of its owners, etc.?  Return here to add your own memories and observations.

I used to love this pizza. Mainly because it fit my salary as a dietary worker at Easton Hospital working on the cafeteria there. I think we used to refer to Mrs. Topps as MOM. (not sure about that, just a recollection)
