Holiday Pop Quiz
While they differ greatly in scale, cost and crowd-attracting potential, the annual holiday commemorative displays of neighboring Wilson Borough and the City of Easton share a number of things in common. We're looking for two particular features that they share that are somewhat unique, but will consider any unique answers you can come up with.
Sorry. No Winners.
Yes, they're both tall and pointy, feature evergreens and are topped by facsimilies of bright things that will burn you if you get too close. They both appear at the end of one year and disappear at the beginning of the next. But we were looking for . . .
1) The two holiday displays are both located on the same street.
The annual Peace Candle display in downtown Easton is literally in the middle of Northampton Street - a couple blocks from that thoroughfare's eastern starting point at the Easton-Phillipsburg "Free Bridge." As for the more unique common feature of the two displays , , ,
2) They both cover statues.
Of course, we're all aware that Easton's elaborate candle construction annually covers the Soldiers and Sailors Monument, originally unveiled in 1900 as a tribute to the different branches of the Union's forces during the Civil War.
But does anyone remember an annual display at Meuser Park, when this tradition began or that the tree covers this beloved (yet occasionally abused) Wilson landmark and his trusty sidekick?
