Fr. Robert Slattery, S.J.
Fr. Robert Slattery (1934 -)
(Principal Jan 1978 – Jun 1978)
With the closure of the dormitories, the ‘senior’ dormitory on the entrance drive was made available to the Hindi Medium St Robert’s High School which was expanding and looking for a location. Fr Robert Slattery was the Headmaster. Meantime in January 1978, to succeed Fr Peter Jones, Fr William Dwyer was appointed as Principal, but as he was teaching overseas at the time, Fr Robert Slattery was appointed as acting Principal for six months. And so, until the summer holidays, Fr Slattery functioned with his usual panache on both sides of the driveway. Earlier, soon after arriving in India in January 1958, he had taught in St. Xavier’s for three years
For the next twelve years he was the Headmaster of St. Robert’s High School which had just then shifted to the campus of St. Xavier’s. The two schools shared the resources on the campus. The collaboration was at its best during the years Fr. Donnelly was at the helm in St. Xavier’s.
