Special Events

NATIONAL DAYS

Each year the school marks national days such as Republic Day and Independence Day. The customary flag hoisting is usually done by the School Captain. The Scouts play a special role in organizing the programme of the day. A speech by one of the Vice Captains and a cultural programme are also included. After the conclusion of the school programmes early students take part in the celebrations organised by the district administration, Scouts and Guides, and so on.

HOUSE DAYS

The Feast Day of its Patron saint is celebrated by the each House enthusiastically. Usually Britto Day (February 4) and Gonzaga Day (June 21) are held on a Saturday close to the dates given. Loyola Day is on July 31st. The specialty of Xavier Day (December 3)is the cross country race around the picturesque Hazaribag Lake. On all house days an extended common morning assembly is held during which students are reminded of the life of the particular saint. Cultural programmes and games are also organised to mark the occasion. Various competitions and fun games are also held at these occasions. 

HEALTH WEEK

The Health Week is celebrated in late April or early May. Activities of the week focus on healthy living as well as prevention and treatment of diseases. These activities include special assemblies organised by the students on selected themes, visits and talks by doctors, skits, poster and collage making and so on. The celebration of health week marks both the inauguration and the high point of the health education programmes which extend over the whole year. The students’ involvement in and learning from the health education programmes is evaluated and graded and appropriate incentives are presented at the end of the academic year

PARENTS NIGHT

Parents’ Night offers the students and the school an opportunity to honour the parents and to exhibit the artistic talents of the students. A very large number of students come up on the stage for the variety entertainment programme while a significant number offer on-stage and off-stage support under the guidance of the teachers every other year. The programme held after sunset attracts a sizeable crowd who appreciate the creative excellence of the students. The programmes are also known for meticulous planning and professionally superior organisation and conduct. 

PARWAZ: BIENNIAL EXHIBITION

Parwaz (The Flight of Creativity) is a biennial exhibition of the creative talents of the students. It was initially a Science and Art & Craft Exhibition in which students displayed various scientific models and artistic creations individually and in groups. Now the scope of the exhibition is enlarged to include other school subjects, activities of the co curricular clubs and individual hobbies. The creations of the Junior School children find a prominent place in the exhibition. This event provides the students an excellent opportunity for teamwork. Every student of the school takes part in the exhibition. The engagement and energy on the campus during the weeks leading to the exhibition are remarkable. Now the exhibition is held mostly outdoors. A large number of parents as well of students from neighbouring schools visit the exhibition.

SPORTS DAY

The annual Sports Day is a colourful, spectacular, fun event each winter. Usually an eminent alumnus of the school graces the occasion as the guest of honour. Many of the former students come to this festive occasion to relax with their batch-mates and friends. The rhythmic march past of classes IV-XII to the accompaniment of the school band and the drill display of Junior School students are the special attractions of the day.

The preparations of the Sports Day take place over three weeks with minimal curtailment of academic activities. Boys and girls are categorised into divisions according to their age, height and weight. They take part in the division-wise competitions representing their houses. Track and field events and fun games together make about 150 distinct items for the competition. Heats are conducted in each house to identify the most promising athletes of the houses. The finals of about 40 events are held on the actual Sports Day.

The Cross Country Races that are held during the period of preparation builds up the tempo, excitement and competitive spirit. Occasional assemblies are conducted in the respective houses during the period of preparation for the sports for better identification with and bonding within the respective houses.
