Catherine A. McClellan

BATAVIA - Catherine A. McClellan of Batavia, 89, and just days short of her 90th birthday, died Thursday morning (Sept. 4, 2008) at Buffalo Hospice in Cheektowaga.

She was born in Mineola, L.I., on Sept. 13, 1918, a daughter of the late Donald M. (Mary M. Monaghan) McLellan. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary McClellan.

Catherine attended school in Batavia, received her bachelor's degree from Buffalo State College and her master's in education from Columbia University and a master in counseling from Canisius College. She was a Social Studies teacher and counselor for more than 30 years with the City of Batavia School district, member of Resurrection Parish, St. Jerome Hospital Guild, Genesee County Retired Teachers and the New York State Retired Teachers.

She is survived by her brother, James P. (Marian) McClellan Sr. of Buffalo; six nieces and nephews, Maria Behm of Los Angles, Clare (James) Button of New Jersey, James P. McClellan Jr. of Rochester, Andrew J. (Ann) McClellan of Snyder, Angela (Ravi) DeSai of Buffalo and John M. (Lauren) McClellan of Boston; 18 great nieces, nephews and many dear friends.

Family and friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Michael S. Tomaszewski Funeral & Cremation Chapel, LLC 4120 West Main St. Rd. Batavia, NY 14020, where prayers will be recited 9:30 a.m.  Monday at the funeral home followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian burial at Resurrection Parish (St. Mary's Site), Ellicott Street in Batavia. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery and memorials are suggested to Genesee Cancer Assistance, Inc. 16 Bank Street Batavia, NY 14020 or a charity of the donor's choice.
