Batavia - Mrs. Mary McCulley Henry, 76, of Naramore Drive, a teacher for 35 years and prominent  local historian, died at 1:30 a.m. today, April 25, 1995, at her home while under Hospice Family Care.
 
A lifetime resident of Batavia, Mrs. Henry was born Oct. 18, 1918, a daughter of the late James B. McCulley, former owner of H.E. Turner and Co. Funeral Home, and Margarett Feris McCulley.
 
She graduated from St. Joseph's School, Batavia High School, Mound Holyoke College in 1941 and received her master's degree from Cornell University in 1942. She retired from the Batavia School district in 1977 as a social studies teacher.
 
A former city of Batavia historian, Mrs. Henry was editor of History of Genesee County, 1890 - 1982, which was published in 1985. She was a member of Friends of the Library, and St. Jerome Hospital Guild, and a former parishioner of St. Mary's Church, where she served on the Parish Council and was a lector and Eucharistic minister.
 
She was also a member of the Holland Purchase Historical Society,  Cornell University Women's Club of Genesee, Alumni of Mount Holyoke College, and Retired Teachers Associations of New York State and Genesee County. She was a charter member of the American University Women and League of Women Voters. She was voted "Woman of the Year," by the Zonta Club in 1983.
 
Surviving are her husband, Joseph F. Henry, a stepson, John M. Henry of Weymouth,, Mass., a stepdaughter, Mary E. Henry of Hopkinson, Mass, two grandchildren, Laura Nunes of Hopkinton, and Jennifer Lowton of Dover, N.H., and five cousins, Margaret Burns Farrell of Albany, Margaret M. Burns of Buffalo, Mary Whiting of Le Roy, Mrs. Jerome Green of Wellsville, and Mary Ellen Gullo of Buffalo.
 
She was a stepdaughter of the late Loretta Nugent McCulley and a cousin of the late Joseph B. Burns and Arthur McGettigan.
 
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at H.E, Turner and Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Church. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Marlboro, Mass. Memorials may be made to Hospice Family Care, or St. Jerome Hospital Foundation.
