Bob Hansen 12

From Bon Hansen:

While on a tour of the Vatican, I walked through the magnificent Gallery of Maps at the Museum.  There are 40 map frescoes on the walls extending nearly 400 feet. The frescoes  represent the Italian regions and papal properties at the time of Pope Gregory XIII (1572-1585).  Completed in 1585, these were painted and executed by the monk and Geographer, Ignazio Danti.

One of the panels is of Ancient Italy and another is of Modern Italy with 38 of the panels representing regional areas.  A recent 4-year restoration was completed in 2016. I should have taken many more pictures, but we were one our way to the Sistene Chapel before the crush of visitors arrived.
