Eliane Dotson 1

From Eliane Dotson:

Ok, I’m finally submitting a map sighting.  Attached is a facsimile of Colton’s wall map, “Map of the United States of America, the British Provinces, Mexico, the West Indies, and Central America: with Part of New Granada and Venezuela,” published in 1849.  This was hanging in the early American school house at the Frontier Culture Museum in Staunton, VA.  The school house was originally built by Noah Schuler around 1840 near East Point in Rockingham County, VA, and was disassembled and moved to the Frontier Culture Museum in 2007.  I highly recommend the Frontier Culture Museum to anyone passing near Staunton, VA.  They have over a dozen historic buildings from Europe, Africa, and the United States along with historical re-enactors to illustrate the story of migration to colonial America.  A fascinating place that is also very kid-friendly.
