Nick Cavitt

NICHOLAS EUGENE CAVITT

1944-2011

Dr. Nick Cavitt, Lt. Colonel Retired, U.S. Army Medical Corps, and a resident of Williamsburg, Virginia, died on April 24, 2011 following a long illness.    Nick proudly served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps in both the Vietnam War and Operation Desert Storm.  He earned a Purple Heart, a Bronze Star, and numerous Distinguished Service medals prior to his retirement in June 1997.  He did fellowships at both Boston Children’s Hospital and Baltimore Shock Trauma and traveled to Honduras to participate in cleft palate repairs. Until his death he worked tirelessly and compassionately as an anesthesiologist both in the Williamsburg area and around the country as a traveling doctor. Nick was an avid polo player who was rated with the U.S Polo Association. Passionate about cooking, he attended the Culinary Institute of America. Nick was particularly proud of having earned his Master Oyster Gardener certification and participated in the Virginias Institute of Marine Science program for the Chesapeake Bay Foundation Oyster Restoration Project.  His hobbies included water color painting, furniture making, antique maps, gardening, flowers and good wine.
