I got a call from Barbara Holdrege saying that Ward had passed away on July 5th. Since his traumatic brain injury caused constant balance problems, he was placed in assisted living for 6 years and was lately placed on Hospice. She has not written an obituary and has no plans for a memorial but will keep us updated as plans evolve. Their 6 year struggle has ended. May he rest in peace.

I was very sorry to hear that both Duncan and now Ward have passed on. Our class is shrinking !

From Bill Trowbridge:

Ward was a good pal, from way back in Omaha’s Washington Elementary School and thoughout our time  at Westside, where he dutifully chauffeured our little gang around Omaha in his ’47 Chevy, being  the only one of us who had his own car. We had many adventures, including one that ended up with Jim Trester and me falling off the Chevy’s rear bumper at 35 mph. I wound up hospitalized with a concussion. Trester, who’d had a few beers, rolled to a easy stop. Most of our other capers were, against the odds, injury free. Years later, Sue and I had the pleasure of visiting Ward and his wife Barbara several times at their home in L.A.. On our last visit, he was having balance problems resulting from a fall on ice during a past ski trip. Nonetheless, he was a generous host, showing  us the sights around town and taking us out for some fine dining. We will certainly miss him but are relieved that his 6 years of suffering in an assisted living facility has finally ended. Rest in peace, old pal.

Bill's memories reminded me of many fond memories of Ward and his driving us around. I remember in the winter of our junior year we were going to a party with Ward driving. It was snow and ice on the roads...we were driving down a hill and couldn't stop when we reached the intersection...we slid right across to the other side without any consequences...no one was coming from either direction.  Ward was my date to the Christmas Prom at Peony Park that same year. Wonderful guy and such a fine friend and person. My condolences to his wife and family...as he will certainly be missed by many.
